I possess eight Linux Mint machines, four sharing the same Wi-Fi USB dongle. All I need to do is upgrade the kernel, and everything functions smoothly. But this one... I attempted a kernel rollback to an older version. I tried port swapping because some ports depend on the CPU, and others on the chipset—swapping helps until I restart. I also tried using a different Wi-Fi dongle from another working system, but it doesn’t help the other one. My Mint version is 22.1, Cinnamon 6.4.8, running kernel 6.8.0-60-generic on an i7 3770 with 16GB DDR3 SSD (128GB SATA). So another retired friend can connect and start learning. It works on wired connections too, everything checks out. Just can’t get the USB Wi-Fi to stay connected. Still have a lot to grasp, and I’m feeling a bit stuck. Any guidance would be appreciated? Update after discovering and applying the 100000000 command—no idea what terminal stuff I’m dealing with. I finally found the realtek 802.11n adapter driver: rtl8xxxu, type USB, so it’s just plugged in and it fails. I verified the same details on three other machines, and someone else was able to type that command for me (that was actually fun!).

Found a suggestion on another forum about changing drivers, so I added the repository for the new driver. The driver manager worked well with the updated setup. Not sure if it's safe, but the changes helped. No idea what the commands were doing, but thanks for trying!
