Hi, I'm looking at my options for internet service after moving into a new home. The installation delays have been frustrating, and I'm wondering if using a Wi-Fi router as a mobile hotspot could work since my phone already has unlimited data. Would it be effective turning my 4G signal into a Wi-Fi connection inside the house? What are the main downsides of this approach? Is it likely to be slow? Thanks!

There are routers available with SIM card slots or the ability to connect a phone or hotspot via USB. I don’t have much experience with these models, but you should confirm compatibility with your carrier’s network. Regarding tethering speeds, it varies by provider—some offer unlimited data, others limit based on 5G, LTE, or even drop to 3G if usage is high. Check your provider’s terms and conditions for details. My provider is generally transparent about their policies.

Sure, happy to help. Comparing a router with your phone's hotspot can offer better performance and stability for multiple devices.

I don’t rely on cellular internet in this manner. A standard router should offer stronger Wi-Fi coverage throughout the house than a phone hotspot, which is what I’m imagining.
