I faced the same problem you did. I tried two different approaches. The first was using powerline Ethernet adapters; it functioned adequately only because the apartment building was brand new with fresh wiring. The second method was simpler. I had an extra TP-Link Access Point, connected it directly to my computer, set it up as a repeater-bridge for my wireless network, and that worked well. If you have a network switch, you can also connect the access point there to extend internet access to other devices.
