Your mom's computer needs Wi-Fi, located in the kitchen on the main floor with the router up on the second floor. An extender is present on the main floor. The connection drops after a while and restarts. Tinkering doesn't reveal issues, but leaving it off causes problems. I changed the adapter and it still works for a couple years. The router was replaced recently. Any advice on what to check?

It turned out the Wi-Fi router was malfunctioning. I installed an Ubiquiti Amplifi HD mesh model to resolve the connectivity problems permanently. I received one for my sister a couple of months ago, and she was amazed—she had poor Comcast service and disliked it for years. The first time she tried Netflix, she exclaimed, "Holy crap, it actually loaded." My parents' Wi-Fi has been fine, but now everything is perfect.
