Hello everyone. I hope you can offer some better guidance. I'm based in the U.K., my ISP is Virgin Media, and I have a DOCSIS 3.0 superhub (modem and router combined). My plan is supposed to support up to 350 Mbps. Once I go hardwired, speeds are solid and consistent. But with Wi-Fi it's a mess—phones disconnect frequently, forcing me to switch to 4G for a stable connection. I've restarted it several times, reset the network settings, cleared cache on devices, and even factory reset the router, but nothing works. I've reached out to my ISP who performed channel switching, replaced the hub, and even installed a thicker cable line because weak signal was blamed for dropouts at the street end. Still nothing. I tried using the hub only in modem mode with a basic router, and it resolved the issue. Now I'm considering a good but affordable cable modem router instead of the superhub, so I can bypass the ISP line entirely and connect directly to a better WiFi router. There are many options available, but I don't want to rush into something and need reviews to avoid bad experiences. Attached is the router specification, though this is the specific model which lacks a USB port. The custom VM-SPI version doesn't include one. Thanks all EN_TG2492 SCE (1).pdf

You're experiencing a wireless problem, not a modem issue. Most combined devices (modem, router, AP) struggle with full functionality, but switching to bridge mode—removing one function—can improve performance. You don't always need to replace the ISP's gateway device if your current setup works well. Your wired connection to the gateway seems stable. Unless you're willing to invest more, consider reaching out to VM for approved modem options compatible with your setup. Also, clarify some networking terms from the FAQ to prevent confusion and ensure you buy the right equipment.

That's a very helpful suggestion. I'll review it carefully. Agreed with you about the combined setup—it's a solid solution. The Superbub 3 works well as a modem, phone, and router all in one. I checked the forum and found that the Hub 3 can operate in modem-only mode, then connect your own router. I considered a better direct connection router, but ended up sticking with the same combined approach.

You require a gadget that connects to the gateway with both wireless and wired options. The easiest choice would be a wireless router.
