She has a coverage gap in her home and was considering a Wi-Fi extender. She currently uses an ARRIS SBG6700-AC that supports 1600 AC. If she connects a 1200 AC extender, it’s likely the network speed would drop to 1200 AC instead of 1600, affecting all devices. The extender might not fully compensate for the slower standard, potentially slowing down the entire Wi-Fi area. It’s best to match the extender’s speed to her existing router for optimal performance.

learn from this example that the large figure represents combined speeds across all tracks. It doesn’t significantly change performance. It won’t lower overall speed throughout the house, though it might slightly impact the area with poor signal.

Yes, using an extender that meets the AC standard is sufficient. If you connect an N base extender to it, it could work, but ensure compatibility and proper installation.

Your router's N WiFi compatibility can broaden the N network coverage.

for n 2,4 you’ll get an extension on another frequency than ac. many routers with 5 ghz also include a 2,4 ghz channel. performance will stay around 50 mbps, but coverage will improve.
