In essence, many devices gain advantages from the higher bandwidth Gen 2 (10Gbps), yet even well-known brands continue to release products capped at Gen 1 (5Gbps). Choosing a USB C Thunderbolt compatible link doesn't alter this fact—regardless of whether you use a USB C or Thunderbolt port, a 3.1 Gen 1 hub will still restrict the data transfer capabilities.

I also questioned the same as the original poster. Specifically, why USB 3.2 Gen 2 is still rare on items like motherboards.
