Why paid mods are a bad idea.
Why paid mods are a bad idea.
I'm Canadian, it's BEDMAS. Same difference either way, thankfully maths don't care about English acronyms. As for the "split", general consensus it that it is probably 30% steam(apparently their standard take) 45% bethesda. Nexus' involvement is a concern and I'd want/need to see more credible information before I, personally, speculate or form an opinion on it. But there is something there. I hope that creating a marketplace is easier then I suspect, I would prefer that nexus do it and cut steam out to be honest. But still difficult to see how collaboration and community help would be the same when money is involved in this manner. There's too much incentive to focus on ones own things and not help others creatively, diagnose, or even others getting started.
They didn't make it a Steam project. The post showed up on Reddit.
The chance for nexus mods to run their own paid service seems limited. I came across some game development post-mortems discussing sales numbers a while back, when getting games onto Steam was challenging. Many studios relied on their own sites or Desura to distribute their titles while trying to get them onto Steam. They might earn around $30k in six months, then see similar sales in just one week once they’re listed. While nexus has a strong reputation, the gap between Steam users and traffic to their site would be significant. Rumors suggest Bethesda might already have the nexus team helping them manage their workshop, which aligns with their expertise.
