why not windows 7?
why not windows 7?
No current support exists for Windows 7 anymore. Upgrading to Windows 10 offers better performance, security updates, and access to newer features.
Execute a DX12 application on Windows 7 is not possible due to missing native support for modern interfaces such as USB 3.0, NVMe, and Thunderbolt.
You're asking about the best operating system for your setup. Win-7 works well, but Oculus Rift typically runs better on Windows 10. It can also use USB 3.0 if the right drivers are installed. Ultimately, it depends on your preferences.
Wasn't it amazing? I don't agree because it was so popular, reliable, and more attractive than Vista, and it runs much quicker than Windows 10. OP: if you need Windows 7 and your processor supports it, that's the way to go.
A dog poop was better than Vista, honestly not the top choice for comparison. Win7 is now what WinXp was before it. I’d rather go for console gaming instead of returning to Win7. Edit: Don’t misunderstand, Win7 had its time and I used to be quite reluctant about it. I just like an OS that’s not stuck in outdated security risks. Missed the speed boost, maybe from some junk installs on a platter drive. I don’t have any speed problems with 10.
It seems you're dealing with performance issues on Windows 10 due to heavy system resources. You're frustrated by built-in features like MS Edge and telemetry that limit your control. You're considering switching to Linux for better compatibility but face challenges because your hardware isn't powerful enough for a fully virtualized Windows setup. One question you have is how the differences between Windows 7 and 10 affect system performance, especially regarding USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt support.
It depends on what you're looking for. The list blends modern Windows 10 capabilities with legacy Windows 8 traits. If you're interested in specific upgrades, it covers GPU acceleration, UEFI support, SecureBoot, USB 3.0, Linux compatibility, and more. Features like DirectX 12, high-DPI scaling, touchpad enhancements, and improved file handling are highlighted. Full support for virtual desktops, OneDrive, and security updates are also mentioned. I included a few examples to give you a clearer picture, but it's a broad overview. Let me know if you want deeper details on any section.
