I've been attempting to set up Wake on LAN so I can remotely power on my PC from my phone, but it hasn't worked as expected. When I open the wol app, it doesn't launch automatically during a search; I have to do it manually. Even then, my PC appears off when it should be on, and the magic packet I send doesn't show up in my network traffic analysis with Wireshark. I've tried enabling Wake on Magic/Wake on Magic in the BIOS, but it's disabled by default. My motherboard is a B550 Tomahawk with an R7 3700X CPU. Could someone assist me?

Is Windows your operating system? It appears there are several problems with WoL on it.

magic packet is the most delicate and tricky software idea ever developed. it might stem from your phone, your home network, or even the precise bios setup. just picture if this were simple—it could become a strange issue in Windows, or a mix of all these factors. one of my systems *years ago* refused to WOL completely. until one day I accidentally tried to initiate it through a media center app, and suddenly it worked without any clear explanation. from that point on, it kept functioning smoothly.

Windows isn't the issue when the PC is completely off; it comes from the BIOS. You're attempting this from within your network, correct? Trying to connect remotely over the internet adds a whole new layer of complexity. Usually, you need to turn on two settings in BIOS—first, enable the network interface for activating the PC, then activate WoL on that interface.

Adjust properly, though your PC might still seem active during Windows use—possibly because of quick startup or other issues. Microsoft provides guidance here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubl...an-feature OP. You may want to test if Wake on Layer 2 works from sleep or hibernation instead.

I disable Fast Boot right away during a new Windows setup, because leaving it active might lead to problems

It could appear absurd, but are you using the LAN while working on this? Magic packets function only within the local network and won’t be forwarded elsewhere.

WOL doesn't function correctly on Windows 10 or 11. The device needs to enter sleep mode for WOL to operate. These versions won't let you use WOL after shutdown.
