My internet connection is a Xfinity plan my parents provided. It worked fine most of the time, usually between 4 to 8 MBPS. Recently it’s been really slow, sometimes dropping to around 8 Kbps. I’m exhausted waiting up to 10 minutes for a YouTube video to load. Why is this happening? The speed has jumped to maybe 1 Mbps now.

Verify every gadget linked to your modem. A hacker might have discovered a way to compromise it and siphon your data.

I need more details to help. Could you clarify what you're asking about?

There should be ways to display the number of connected devices. Some smartphones can indicate this via their Wi-Fi icon in the status bar once they’re online.

I'll give it a shot, though I'm not sure it works. That's pretty odd.

Most likely your connection is slowing down or your network device is failing. It seems someone might be consuming your data. Look in the task manager to confirm no unusual GPU activity. Be aware of potential malware like worms that mimic this behavior. Also, you might have accidentally started streaming via an unrecognized hotkey, such as Invidia Shield. This has happened before. If unsure, reset your modem and router. If that doesn’t work, reach out to your ISP—there could be a line issue or rate limits. Then check for possible bandwidth theft.

You’re online via Wi-Fi. Verify the connection. If needed, move your PC temporarily and connect directly with Wi-Fi turned off. Check speeds at different spots—one download test from one location isn’t sufficient. The most affordable Xfinity plan offers 300Mb/s, but reliability varies based on where you download. Connecting to the router usually provides the best results. Essentially, identify whether the issue lies with your internet service or just your Wi-Fi setup. In most cases, Wi-Fi is fine and your connection is stable. If not, testing is essential.

Docsis cable internet similar to Xfinity can face performance challenges for various reasons. Your device might be overwhelmed, leaving insufficient bandwidth. There could be problems with the incoming signal reaching your home, requiring it to meet specific standards for proper internet operation. If you're using Wi-Fi, several factors can disrupt the connection. The simplest method to check is via Ethernet. If speeds remain strong, the issue likely lies with the Wi-Fi setup. Try testing during different times, such as around 4 PM when usage peaks. Assuming you're connected through the POS box provided by Xfinity, consider restarting it to resolve potential glitches. If the problem persists, it may indicate a hardware defect. I own Xfinity and have rarely used their equipment in certain locations, opting instead for our own modem and router. Should Ethernet connections still struggle, contacting them directly might be necessary—they can retrieve signal data from your gateway and assess if further technical support is required.
