I recently purchased this computer three months ago, and everything operated correctly until recently. In Team Fortress 2, I am consistently receiving 100 frames per second, but it doesn't appear smooth in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. I usually achieve 70-80 fps, but now it's dropping to 40-60. However, I experience no issues with Fortnite on the Epic platform. I’ve attempted to resolve this by reinstalling Windows twice, and I've updated all my drivers, including reverting to older versions. I also disabled vertical synchronization and ensured my power setting is set to high performance, yet benchmark tests still reveal the problem. Could someone please assist me in identifying the cause?

Examine your task manager to investigate unusually high CPU usage – it’s showing 51% in the background. You don't know what you were doing when you ran the test, but if it’s not related, something is consuming your system's resources. Perform a virus and malware scan. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, consider updating your motherboard's BIOS (if it’s already current, reset it to its original factory settings, clear the CMOS memory, and then reinstall the BIOS).

Employ CCleaner to swiftly examine and disable unnecessary programs initiating at startup, and then reboot your computer to observe if this resolves the issue. Could you provide details about your PC's specifications?

Notice a high level of background CPU usage (51%) in Task Manager? It’s unclear what you were doing during the test, but if it continues even when nothing is open, something might be consuming your system’s resources. Run a virus and malware scan. If that doesn't resolve the issue, consider updating your motherboard BIOS (if it’s already current, reset it to its original factory settings, clear the CMOS, and then reinstall the BIOS). Then, re-run your test. Task Manager shows only 2% usage when everything is closed, except for Google Chrome. I’ve checked for viruses and malware, and my system appears clean; however, I haven’t attempted updating the BIOS yet. I need to investigate how to do that.

Koushick Talukdar:

Employ CCleaner to swiftly examine and disable unnecessary startup applications as well. Reboot your computer and observe whether this resolves the issue.

Could you provide details about your PC's configuration?

I've attempted to use my specs, but it seems ineffective; even reducing graphics in games only manages a marginal improvement, boosting frame rates by perhaps 10 fps at most.

Monitor your Task Manager and observe any unusually high CPU usage – specifically, “Very high background CPU (51%)”. You likely weren’t performing a specific action when the test was conducted, so it's possible that some process is consuming excessive resources. Execute a complete antivirus and malware scan. If these steps don’t resolve the issue, consider updating your motherboard BIOS. If you've already updated the BIOS, attempt to restore it to its original factory settings by clearing the CMOS and then rebuilding the BIOS configuration. Then, retest to see if that improves performance. I’ve already updated the BIOS, and I will now proceed with resetting it.
