Yes to blocking is a solid choice. Most attacks can be stopped with minimal stamina cost. Early shields only reduce about 75% of damage, but you quickly improve them. Swinging your shield left works as a parry, though timing is tricky and not every attack responds well. When it does work, it’s worth the risk—it can cost you a hit if you miss. I think practicing this against mob enemies after mastering basics will boost your chances of success without parrying. You might not find all the items before Ludex, but the tutorial area has less content now. Be prepared for firebombs to become a hot key, usually mapped with D-pad adjustments. It’s been a while since I remember their significance, but they’ll definitely play a role later in the game. The game’s slow start can be frustrating, but it eventually becomes enjoyable once you get the hang of it.
Ah ok thanks for the info! I only mentioned the Firebombs because he’s weak to Fire and I read a guide online that said it does significant damage to him in his second phase. It would’ve helped a lot to melee him until second phase than use Firebombs from a distance when he’s in his second phase to bring him down.
If your shield completely stops all physical hits, focus on staying out of his line of sight
Also when he shifts during the second phase, enter the area—you can land six easy shots. Restart the match, gather your fire bombs, learn how to use them, then resume so you have all the explosives needed to battle him. Equip your ember too; once you escape the flasks, pop it for a complete heal and extra health. As soon as you draw the sword, you’ll take several hits before he even stands up, then during his transformation, he’ll be hit like a ton of bricks, followed by a fiery explosion.
It seems the chance of blocking most damage is around 90-95%, but there was an archer mob ahead of Iudex. I had to quickly move, intercept his first shot, and then deal with him, which slightly reduced my health.
