Why has my RTX 3060 stopped working properly?
I made two poor choices—buying a laptop and opting for an HP model with an RTX 3060. When I got it in August 2020, the price was around $1,500, which was way more than expected for that time. Now, performance has dropped significantly; I used to get 55-60 FPS on RTX: Ultra, but now I’m usually between 20-25 FPS at most during the day. After just a few minutes of gameplay, it can reach only 40-45 FPS. I’m considering converting this laptop into a desktop setup and upgrading parts, though that seems unlikely and might not even be feasible. Here are the full specifications for reference:
Model Name: HP Omen 15
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800H (3.2 GHz)
GPU: RTX 3060 Mobile 6GB
RAM: 16GB DDR4
Storage: 512GB SSD (type unknown, hard to check)
Screen: 15.6in 1080p 144hz
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Even if it doesn’t work, I’ll try it out. I’m at my limit with options.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! You may wish to verify if your laptop has any pending BIOS updates. After confirming, ensure your operating system is current. Then, use DDU to eliminate all GPU drivers, and manually reinstall them using the newest drivers from Nvidia's support page, running the installer as an administrator by right-clicking and selecting Run as Administrator.
