When configuring a Windows 10 setup using your Microsoft Account, a user folder is generated with your name. Unfortunately, this folder name often has your first name cut off. This happens consistently and isn't easily reversible once created.

Your folder lists tjcat on both your desktop and laptop, but it should display tjcater instead.

It consistently fails across all my systems. On my desktop, I don’t notice it and quickly link everything to folders I’ve made on the D: partition.

The W10 user folder appears truncated across multiple versions, including 8 and 8.1. MS accounts are cut down to just the initial five letters. This seems to be a technical limitation. If it's happening randomly at the end, the cause isn't clear. However, the consistent pattern points to a shortened user name or folder structure.

This action is typical behavior. It likely helps avoid hitting the NTFS path character limit and simplifies navigation by typing paths. My assumption. To ensure your name appears correctly, create a LOCAL account with your desired name. Log in now and connect it to your Microsoft account. Your account name will update to reflect the Microsoft account, though your profile folder will remain unchanged.

I'll give it another shot the next time I reinstall. Hope they note this somewhere. Their truncation gives my name a misleading feel.

Yeah, it messes up my name too. If 'Minibois' was my first name, it would show up as 'Minibo' (but Minibois isn't my real name, so...). I don’t mind the change much, though—I didn’t expect it to alter anything. Since I used a Microsoft account, I thought it would just copy it and ask for a different format if needed. That seems like smart design.
