Why does my new gaming laptop feel slow?
Hello Forum, I just bought the ROG Zephryrus Duo 16 and have these exact specs: an RTX 3080 with 16GB of RAM, AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX processor, a 32GB memory stick, and a screen that is 3840x2400 pixels running at 120Hz. So what's wrong? I feel like this laptop is really underperforming me. With these specs, I should be able to play games in high settings and get those high frame rates, but for instance, I can't run Destiny 2 on a medium setting that keeps the FPS above 70. That just doesn't make sense given my hardware. Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks so much!
That is pretty slow. I'd guess it should be around 150 frames per second when you turn everything up high. Just check the temperatures and confirm our wires are set right for top speed.
Don't try to use that on-chip graphics power from the Ryzen 9 6900HX.
The computer is trying to use its graphics card, but the drivers are already up to date. It just can't run fast enough.
Normally it stays below 80 degrees because I have cooling fans running constantly.
You might have noticed that things are acting up lately, like getting slower or not working as well. This could be because of a recent update to the main setting chip on your computer (BIOS). Some people say they had lower and shaky performance after switching to version 314 of BIOS. Have you recently done this?
Look at your task bar or event viewer to find out which program is using most of your graphics card. It could be a crypto-related virus. If that isn't the case, take out your laptop and clean it up (but don't use a brush). Then re-apply some thermal paste.
