Why are no Seasonic models included in the 2023 recommendations?
Unfortunately, the feedback on this post was restricted in an earlier version. It seems this question might have been raised back then: why are no Seasonic models available? Best Power Supplies 2023 These PSUs provide top reliability, performance, and protection for your system and its parts. By the way, I’m considering a Corsair HX1000i that’s listed on Newegg for $225 (after a $10 instant discount). https://www.newegg.com/corsair-hxi-serie...6817139313 It’s more than what I need right now, but I appreciate the iCue function (even on Linux!) and the forward-thinking ATX 3.0 + PCIe 5.0 PSU with a 10-year warranty!
The mention regarding ATX 3.0 compatibility is actually a benefit of the Corsair HX1000i (2023 edition).
Not every model is ATX 3.0 or even brand new, so this year's review might not be limiting. The Best Mid-Level RGB PSU category seems odd—RGB on PSU fans gives bad impressions, and you really want RGB underglow on the case? At least it’s Corsair. It probably depends on how long AMD supports older PSUs. The future will clarify, but these old ones still matter for some PCs. They’re not suddenly useless just because a new standard exists. These aren’t 5090 grade cards, are they?
Not every case includes a PSU at the bottom. For me, I will turn off any RGB that might be present. By the way, the main reason I appreciate Corsair's iCue is its ability to provide detailed power readings. I wish more PSUs had this feature and there was a common standard for it. I don't see a point in having an I2C connection inside the ATX connector block.
Icue experiences fluctuations. The last version to the present had issues because the AIO couldn't adjust fan speed according to custom curves, only default ones did. I discovered this when the CPU exceeded 70°C and fans kept running despite changes. It was reassuring once they updated to the current build, though it still has its own issues... like showing 7900XT cards twice on the dashboard, for example.
Companies cannot create fully intelligent PSUs because current systems lack transparency in power consumption details. Without clear visibility into total power draw across the entire setup, it becomes difficult to identify and recommend models without labels. Making specifications accessible would help users locate suitable PSUs more easily.
Here are some examples of companies with better PSU offerings. Every business has a weak PSU section, but not all are overrated. The reason some might be considered overrated is unclear.
