Your internet speed seems inconsistent. Check your router settings or contact your provider to confirm the actual speed. Adjust your network configuration if needed.

Verify the Ethernet connection you connected to the router. Confirm it uses a gigabit Ethernet port. If not, the cable may be damaged or you might need to update the driver for your Ethernet adapter.

It's likely your current router doesn't support gigabit speeds. You can verify this by looking up your model number and examining the WAN/LAN connections. If the LAN connections are only 100 Mbps, you're limited to 100MBPS. If you need a new router, purchasing used ones is often more cost-effective overall.

Another simple tip I didn’t hear much about: just restart your router. Your Nighthawk R7000 would sometimes cut to 100Mbps once a month, requiring a reboot to return to full speed.

Also review the router's configuration. My device allows changing specific ports to operate in Power Mode or Green mode. Green mode caps speed at 100 Mbps: Spoiler

Energy-saving Ethernet solutions like Green Ethernet can lower port usage when idle. I’m unsure how this conserves power, but it seems necessary if such features exist and developers included firmware support. Run a speed test to verify it exceeds 100 mbit/s, observe the duration at 1 Gbit before slowing back down. You can turn it off, but unless it stops higher speeds, there’s no clear benefit to disabling it.
