Many in the PC community dislike iTunes, but I personally don’t follow Apple too closely. I actually prefer avoiding Apple products altogether. Still, I’m a big fan of iTunes. The Windows Media Player is awful—poor interface and bad design—and it doesn’t look nearly as polished as iTunes does. What’s the real reason for all the dislike?

I dislike the requirement to modify an Apple gadget. There needs to be a better alternative. I shouldn’t have to rely on their system or convert my music into their format. Hope another firm creates a strong PMP.

It's really bad. The software often crashes, doesn't function properly on Windows, and the audio quality is terrible. Every time I've tried it over the last decade, it feels completely broken.

i don't understand the issue either. i actually like using it. regarding encoding to their file format, you're not required to do it. i have many mp3 files in my itunes collection. i could convert them to aac, but i don't think it's worth the time or storage space.

Same as with Google+, just a mediocre experience. It tends to run slowly, doesn’t offer good features, doesn’t work for most of my needs (though I still want it as the default). Whenever you connect something, it tries to sync, which can be frustrating during tech support—especially when iTunes isn’t even open, and it slows down the computer just to start syncing. Then it tells me something’s wrong. No custom UI options either. When iTunes is in shuffle mode, I can play three songs out loud from my 1400, but they’re not random; one will always come next. That’s odd. Most of the criticism comes from people who don’t like Apple products. They’ll probably dislike it no matter what. I’ve stopped using it, but I still don’t mind iTunes much.

I have a Corsair K50 with media keys in the upper right corner, but they aren't functioning with iTunes. It seems like a problem with Corsair is more likely, and since iTunes doesn't handle many keyboard shortcuts well, it might be a compatibility issue.

It performs really poorly on Windows, especially with macOS. On Windows it crashes quickly, while Spotify works fine. If I chose another music app, I’d go for Foobar2000.

I've disliked iTunes for quite some time due to unpleasant experiences, like having to re-sync my entire phone or iPod just to copy a single track. When I wanted to add an image, it required syncing everything, which often led to losing something important. I’ve stored pictures on my phone and iPod but not on my computer, and I prefer that arrangement. However, I might consider transferring files from my PC using iTunes, only to lose other data instead. Syncing with my computer has usually been a nightmare for me. Forget about charging or copying to another machine—everything tends to disappear. I rarely used iTunes before, but four years ago I used Winamp if I remember correctly. Then, when I got my iPhone 5 last year, I tried iTools, which is an alternative to iTunes that eliminates those issues. It should be included in the device packaging—it’s significantly better than iTunes. Of course, some of these problems might have been resolved since then, but they’ve left me frustrated beyond words. Therefore, I won’t use iTunes again. If I ever get iPads in the future, I’ll sync with iTools instead. The best option for this task. Edit: A funny memory came to mind. When the iPod video was popular, I needed my music off the device. After facing so many issues, I disabled the software and manually removed every file from the iPod, renamed them back using iTunes format to song names... At that time, I had around 1200 tracks. That’s why I hate iTunes so much. I don’t dislike Apple—I’d own an iPad and probably another iPod in the future—but I won’t rely on their software for managing my devices.

You used iTunes since it was the only option available when you first got it.

I’m probably the luckiest person here, thanks to my iTunes. It holds more than 10,000 320kbps tracks, and I’m running it on a basic i3 Windows laptop.
