White VGA light for Z690 Prime model
Hello, two days ago I got my Z690 Prime-a motherboard. I put the CPU and GPU in and it worked for a short time, about five minutes. Then it shut down completely and didn’t do anything. Turning it back on shows a white LED (see images). This only happens with the top PCIe slot; the bottom one works fine. When I slide the GPU into the top slot, it makes loud grinding noises like sand. After cleaning the board with pressurized air, the PC stays on for hours but doesn’t produce any output. Things I’ve tried so far: adjusting CPU position, swapping RAM, clearing CMOS, updating BIOS, installing Windows 11 fresh, using a PCIe riser. Specs: Asus Z690 Prime-a I7 12700KF, 32GB Kingston Fury 4800MHz, Asus Strix OC 3080 1TB, WD SN850, Corsair RMx 750W. Please help me fix this issue before returning the board.
It seems the PCI slot might have been faulty or the solder connection was unstable. Consider using another GPU in the upper port to test compatibility. The white GPU indicator suggests communication issues between board and GPU, possibly due to a damaged power trace on the board connected to the PCI slot. A weak riser cable could also be the issue—ensure it’s secure before proceeding. PCIE risers that are slightly bent may be compromised internally, making removal the most straightforward solution. This appears to be the most likely cause based on your observations.
