I was replacing thermal paste on my GPU's processor and spotted this area on the chip. I thought it was just leftover paste and attempted to clean it, but it didn’t come off completely. I tried isopropyl alcohol without success and looked through various forums for advice, but no relevant discussions appeared. I became increasingly worried that my GPU might fail and was panicking. However, when I tested the card again, everything functioned normally except for slightly elevated temperatures compared to normal. This was likely due to the thermal pads not being replaced since their prices had dropped significantly—from around ₹0.49 to $7-8 for cheap models. Is this a serious concern or just a minor issue? The images attached show the spot in question.

Someone cleaned it really hard. It seems like a chip with liquid metal on it got corroded. It looks bad but isn’t too serious. Your temperature readings shouldn’t be impacted. I’d reapply thermal paste and give it another try—no need to stress.

Just for reference, here's what I'm talking about, here is one of my old delidded CPUs (new) One week of liquid metal, notice the marks on the die, those do not clean off:
