I need to consider an upgrade for my laptop. Right now I have two 4GB modules, but only 6GB is available since 2GB is reserved for the built-in GPU. Would it make sense to increase capacity even if it means a mismatch? The current 6GB isn’t sufficient for my needs, and I’m skeptical about reaching 8GB. If a mismatched upgrade is acceptable, would adding 12GB (4+8) be enough? Alternatively, since a 16GB option exists at a similar cost, should I go with the 20GB (4+16) version? Only one module can be replaced. Here are my details: OS: Fedora Linux 40 KDE Plasma 6.1.1 Frameworks 6.3.0 Qt 6.7.1 Kernel 6.9.6-200.fc40.x86_64 Graphics: Wayland AMD Ryzen 5 3500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Graphics Memory 5.7GB (2x4GB, speeds 2400 + 2666) Manufacturer: Acer Product: Swift SF314-41 Version: V1.10

When you can't swap both units, use the largest it allows. If swapping is possible, do it. Having various sizes turns it into an asynchronous dual-channel setup—exceeding the minimum of one kit doubles the capacity, but going beyond halts to single-channel performance...

For better performance, add more RAM. The impact of lacking dual-channel memory is usually smaller than missing sufficient total RAM. Your choice should match your specific requirements.

Great choice! I'm all set with the 16GB option.
