Which RAM will provide better performance in games when paired with a Ryzen 9 3900x?
I currently possess
G.Skill Flare X RAM rated for 3200MHz CL14
. I recently discovered
this video
which mentions the ideal frequency range for RAM with Ryzen 3XXX CPUs is around 3600MHz. After watching it, I became curious about overclocking my RAM to hit that target, but I have a few concerns.
Is the information in the video about the 3600MHz being the optimal setting accurate?
Does the game resolution matter in this context? The videos tested at 1080p, but I play at 1440p.
If the first point is correct, which would improve gaming performance between 3266MHz CL14 RAM and 3600MHz CL15 RAM? Through some tests, I found that the highest stable frequency I can set my RAM to on CL14 before it becomes unstable is 3266MHz. If 3600MHz at CL15 gives better results, I’ll aim for that option.
What motherboard are you running?
I tend to hold off on purchasing new RAM until I see a few BIOS updates.
My C14 3200 MHz system is probably using Samsung B die RAM, which is currently the top choice for overclocking.
It would be quite unexpected if a BIOS update enhancing RAM compatibility isn’t released soon.
When a more reliable BIOS version becomes available, you should be able to boost your existing RAM to 3400 MHz or faster with the DRAM Calculator for Ryzen.
