Which of these two laptops would be the better choice for your backup computer?
My primary laptop is an HP OMEN 16 equipped with an Intel i7-11800H, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060. I’m considering a backup option to ensure continuity in case of issues with my OMEN 16. After reviewing the best offers in my country, I’ve limited myself to two models: an HP Zbook Fury G8 and an MSI WF75 10TK.
I checked a subreddit for suggestions but received little response. The Fury G8 features an Intel i7-11850H (8 cores, 16 threads), 32GB DDR5 (5200Mhz), 512GB SSD, and an NVIDIA T1200 (4GB). In contrast, the WF75 10TK has an Intel i7-10750H (6 cores, 12 threads), 32GB DDR4 (2666Mhz), 2TB SSD, and an NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 (6GB VRAM).
Which one should I choose? The Zbook offers a quicker processor and faster RAM, while the WF75 provides more storage and a stronger GPU. Considering their specifications, build quality, and additional features such as keyboard comfort and audio performance, which option would you suggest for backup?
A backup system is one that remains unused unless the primary setup fails, and most individuals wouldn't possess one... unless they lacked immediate access to a substitute in the worldwide market (meaning their true backup would be an outdated, less capable machine solely reserved for placing orders online). Both options appear to be robust laptops.
The first model is near your main system but features significantly reduced graphics capabilities, reaching around GTX 1650 standards, whereas the second boasts a much more powerful RTX 4070 GPU and a substantially larger SSD compared to your primary device, though it tends to run slightly slower overall—primarily due to fewer cores. Performance consistency across all 14nm cores has remained relatively stable since the 6th generation Skylake, with noticeable improvements mainly in the 12th generation. Ultimately, the choice hinges on how crucial GPU performance is for your needs. The disparity between these two is considerably greater than that seen in CPU differences.
Thank you for the input! It seems the space between the GPUs is bigger than expected, which might make the MSI a better choice compared to the Zbook.
