You're considering a build with an i3 4170, GTX 960, and i5 4460 for DayZ and other open-world titles. Since you plan to run DayZ at a moderate setting and expect it to be more CPU-heavy than your other games, the i5 4460 should provide a solid performance. The GTX 960 is decent for gaming, but the i3 might struggle with demanding titles unless you optimize settings. For variety, the i5 will give you better flexibility across games. It's a good balance if you want consistent performance without overcommitting hardware.

Not much knowledge on DayZ, but if it's demanding on the CPU, go for an i5. It's safe to say you won't be able to run F4 smoothly with any processor.

Choose the 4460 for optimal performance in DayZ. This game can be quite taxing on the CPU. A stronger GPU would be ideal, though the newer 950 is already a significant upgrade. A 380 model would provide even better results.

I don't agree, my friend using an FX-6300 with 750 Ti can play bf4 at high difficulty and maintains over 30 FPS.

Dayz needs more CPU power... consider getting the 4460, but issues might remain... because Dayz is still a joke...

It seems the answer hinges on how the original creators defined smooth.

DayZ needs basically one main processor, making it more efficient. You can also pair a Skylake i5 for better value. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6yztP6 @isaackeem

Sure, the i5 is definitely a strong choice.
