You should consider Ubuntu for its stability and wide support, while Mint offers a more user-friendly interface if you're new to Linux.

Ubuntu 16.04 seems more appealing compared to Lubuntu and Mint. You can customize it easily using themes and other options if you don’t like the default appearance. I prefer themes from noobslab.com, often opting for a minimalist window style with vibrant flat icons and a macOS-inspired dock. It looks great!

Ubuntu is straightforward to operate and works even on basic hardware like a potato. It offers a clean interface tailored for users unfamiliar with Linux.

Are you interacting with the interface through a graphical user interface or via the command line?

uncertain about this because it wasn’t included, but I believe a Celeron or Atom chip with a 500gb drive would work. If accurate, the processor runs around 1.7–2.1 GHz due to throttling, which was common from about 2008 to 2009.

I'm preparing it for my dad's job, mainly saving old photos, using Google searches, noting car details (he's a mechanic), and testing some basic 900x600 settings on CS GO. I only know Mac OS and Windows, so I needed guidance.

Linux focuses on personalization. Try Lubuntu to switch the desktop if needed. Avoid full Ubuntu on older systems.

I operate a Linux Mint installation with limited hardware, besides experiencing sluggish startup times. Still, it functions reasonably well and can handle YouTube videos fairly smoothly.
