Which components should I improve for this setup?
I’m currently using this PC setup, which has served me well for over a decade – it's been a dependable machine. However, I’m beginning to notice performance issues while gaming, and it feels like my system is showing its age. While I can still achieve 60 frames per second or higher in games like Destiny and Apex Legends, I frequently experience instability with crashes and inconsistent frame rates. Considering this, I’d like to know how best to improve my build and what upgrades would bring it up to today's specifications. I’m perfectly satisfied with running at 1080p resolution and prioritizing smooth frame rates over a marginal improvement in visual detail. I’m also apologizing for this being my first PC and that I've only upgraded incrementally over the years – it’s just been a gradual process.
My experiences with Destiny 2 have been notably problematic recently. Despite using a 1440p display paired with an i7-3770 processor running at 4.2GHz and an RX580, I'm consistently achieving frame rates between 80 and 90 FPS within the game. Could you verify that your RAM is operating at its configured XMP profile – specifically 800MHz with an effective speed of 1600MHz – and is installed in dual-channel mode on your motherboard? Are you certain you’re utilizing an i7-4790 and not an i7-4790K? Do you possess both of those monitors, and is variable refresh rate activated? That’s a considerable collection of solid-state drives!
My system was executing the benchmark, but I disabled it because I didn’t perceive any variation between when it was active and inactive. Personally, I believe it experienced more instability while running on its own, though that might simply be a result of me imagining things.
Indeed, I sadly only have the standard version rather than the ‘K’ model; it came from an old computer being discarded.
Yes, that's something I frequently encounter. The Alienware was a present, and the Predator was given to me due to unfortunate circumstances involving the same person who presented me with the Alienware monitor. As far as I know, both machines have this feature enabled.
I apologize for the confusion regarding the SSDs. The only genuine one is the Samsung model, while the others are just standard hard drive versions. I mistakenly clicked in that section without realizing it.
Ultimately, this isn’t solely due to fate. Even in games like League of Legends and my emulators, I used to operate them without issue, but now I’m beginning to notice minor frame drops and a general lack of smoothness.
Considering you recently upgraded your graphics card, it would be beneficial to replace your processor, motherboard, and memory as well—this should hopefully resolve any system instability you’re experiencing. Could you please specify your shopping location and indicate your price range?
