Performed a new Windows installation. I only use this software to alter the colour of my front PC fans once, then close it and never return. To enjoy RGB Aura Sync/Aura Effects, I need to install the full Armory Crate package. Which ASUS-related option can I safely remove without losing fan colour support? Thanks!

You can simply install the Aura Sync version independently, without the Armoury Crate that comes with it. Use this direct link to download:
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/14....84_v2.zip
(This link was added because the original one is no longer visible on the site.)
Extract the files and set up the installation. (Make sure to remove the Armoury Crate beforehand)

This looks great, it's exactly what I'm looking for. Only thing is when I install it and load it up, I'm met with the following:
Do you know if there is a way around this or are they basically forcing us to install the whole package now?
