Which air cooler is suitable for an i7 2600k at 4.2Ghz?
Hi,
I'm using a hackintosh with an i7 2600k @ 4.2Ghz, Vcore around 1.288V, LLC set to High (Asus P8Z77-M). I'm running Cooler Master Vortex Plus recommended by a friend. When it's fully loaded, the temperature reaches about 79°C, which is quite high. I'm looking for a new cooler but don't know which model to choose from these options:
- Prolimatech Lynx
- Zalman CNPS 10X Optima 2011
- Deepcool Gammaxx 400
- Thermalright True Spirit 90M Rev.A
- Thermalright True Spirit 120M Rev.A (how much better is the 120M compared to the 90M?)
- ID Cooling SE-214X
I don't have much budget and live in Vietnam, so I'm really limited.
😛
Thanks a lot!
Consider Cooler Master Hyper 212X or Evo for better cooling options.

Alternatively, the Cryorig H7 is a solid choice if you have extra budget.

Check out the Cooler Master Hyper 212x or Evo. You can find more details here: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/hmtCmG/...212e20pkr2. If you have extra cash, I’d recommend the Cryorig H7. I’m thinking about getting the Hyper 212 Evo, but how does it stack up against the True Spirit 120M?
The true spirit of thermal is cooler than the 212 Evo, though it costs more than the 212 Evo. If you manage to find it at a lower price, it's worth considering.

I've heard many tips in these forums suggesting the Hyper 212 Plus is the top choice within its price range.
At my place, I can locate a Thermalright True Spirit 120M (not 140) that's about $5 cheaper than the 212 Plus/Evo.
However, I'm concerned about the RAM spacing. I just checked the distance from the CPU center to the first RAM slot—it's less than 6cm.
