My youngest son has traveled to Germany for his architecture master's degree. He isn’t very familiar with computer hardware and has depended on me for everything. He couldn’t bring his Ryzen desktop with him; instead, he’ll be using a Lenovo i7-4710HQ laptop that I purchased in 2015. That was when his old Samsung i3 started struggling with the workload at college.

The Lenovo is still functioning well and he used it at home alongside his desktop. I upgraded the hard drive to an SSD and increased the RAM from 8GB to 16GB. Still, there may be a time when he needs a new laptop or decides to replace it entirely.

I’m looking for advice on where to buy a laptop in Germany—specifically in Cottbus, a small city near the Polish border about an hour by train from Berlin. Should I consider buying online or visiting a physical store? Is it better to shop in Cottbus or Berlin? Please let me know your thoughts.

You can find recommendations here;
XMG | Top gaming laptops from Germany
At XMG, we’re dedicated gamers and tech enthusiasts, and we understand what truly counts in the best mobile gaming laptops.
www.xmg.gg
I suggest checking out the Precision line from Dell;
https://www.dell.com/de-de/shop/scc/scr/...oduct-line
As an architect by training, it would be wise if your son could learn to use the software he intends to run on the laptop. In the early 2000s, 3DS Max and Vray were the main tools available, but now students have access to a vast array of applications.
He’ll require significant RAM, multiple SSDs, and a portable storage device to save his projects and renders. Modern laptops no longer accommodate large HDDs, focusing instead on slim designs.
Lenovo is another option worth considering;

Wishing your son luck and congratulations on his trip to Germany!

Thanks for the feedback and the praise. He works with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, V-Ray, Lumion, and more recently Revit. He prefers Lenovo because his old 10-year-old machine has been reliable, unlike many of his peers who faced issues with HP, Dell, Mac, and others. He often travels with the Lenovo and has cleaned its interior every few years. However, I understand it's not smart to stick strictly to one brand. Which brands are now seen as trustworthy?
