Where do I place Windows?
Hey everyone, welcome! I'm just getting started here and made my account specifically to ask about this question. If anything seems off, let me know right away. I'm preparing a "summer clean" for my laptop, mainly used for studying, and I'm aiming for top performance. My setup includes a Thinkpad E580 with a 256 GB M.2 SSD and a 1 TB FireCuda SSHD upgrade. I was thinking about creating partitions on the SSD for Windows and boot files, using the SSD for program files (like CAD and games) and reserving the rest for documents. Do you have any tips on how to get the most out of this system? Thanks! /Fruztr4tion
Install Windows and software on the SSD. You can store some of your favorite games there as well. The rest will remain on the SSHD.
I’d install Windows on the fastest storage device (the m.2 SSD), which would improve startup speed and make the system feel quicker. Less-used large games and files should reside on the smaller SSD file system.
I own a 1TB Kingston A2000 M.2 NVMe with a 250GB split for Windows and 750GB for programs. Windows has been using this drive consistently; I also have a 500GB SATA SSD and a 2TB HDD in the same system.
