I bought an MSI GF75 laptop from a shop recently. They said they fixed it by changing the charging port. Now, every time I turn the power on or sleep down, my computer restarts instead of just shutting down. I checked all the Windows settings online and nothing changed this. My two questions are: 1) Is this bad? Will the laptop still work if I leave it plugged in forever? 2) Are there any other fixes I don't know about? Thanks for helping, Jack. Also, my laptop makes a strange noise sometimes when the lid is closed. Maybe it's the power-up sound but I'm not sure. The screen looks dark even though it seems to be off.

What happened was the original reason I brought my laptop to the shop? Why did the shop tell me that the charging port was replaced? Do you know for sure that they actually did so? One possible explanation is that while fixing the machine, it missed some software updates and now needs them. This update step involves restarts, which can cause trouble. Another chance reason is if the new charging port created a short circuit, making the computer think it needs to reset itself. If the shop gave any warranty on their job, you should bring the laptop back and tell them about this issue. Listen to what they say first, then act based on that information.

I took my laptop to the store because it wouldn't charge at all. I'm pretty sure they replaced the charging port since the pin broke off. They also updated the BIOS and cleaned dust from the motherboard too. The shop knew about this problem and said they'd charge £100 more just in case. Is it really worth spending that much to fix it?
