Active adapters change between analog and digital, but I rarely encountered the need for many digital outputs. I used three screens for years (still do). Unless you're looking for three analog inputs when only two are available. Probably still have the adapters and cables in my drawer. LoL I've switched to triple DisplayPort screens for a few years now.

On several older cards, using more than two digital outputs required an active adapter. It's been a while since I recall the specific reason, but I'm certain many cards had this restriction. I'll need to investigate further.
