Well, it seems you might have a bad chip or need some voltage tweaks. I'm not an expert on voltages, so I don't have the details.

Not all chips are perfect. Lowering the clock speed is your best choice. Also, how warm it becomes and what PSU you're using matter. A good PSU can improve overclocking.

I haven't noticed temperatures rising past 60 degrees Celsius and I've been working with it all day. My PSU is 1250 watts since I'm running two 290x's in crossfire, though I don't have the exact model number. I do know it's gold rated.

As I mentioned, just lower the clock speed. You're demanding too much from your CPU.

So your telling me there's no way I can overclock it past its stock speed of 4.0ghz! Awe man! There must be something I am doing wrong! As I said I am fairly new to this! And downclocking is making it slower right?

You said you overclocked it 1Ghz already, which would be 5Ghz, unless I misunderstood.

I believe I'm limited to running at the stock speed of 4.0ghz. Going beyond that isn't possible according to my understanding. If I push it higher, like 4.1ghz or 4.2ghz, it will just freeze.

I'm still searching for the problem and will submit a professional question with all my settings. I'll choose a solution at this time.
