WHEA logger encountered an issue with random PC crashes in the event viewer.
Hi everyone, here’s what I’ve got so far:
My setup includes a Ryzen 5800X with a negative PBO2 curve optimizer set to 20 (now adjusted to 18). Previously, I had a 2080 Ti and didn’t experience such problems. I’m using a Gigabyte Aorus 3080 Ti seasonic-x 1250W PSU, Corsair RAM 32GB 3200, and an Asrock X570 Taichi motherboard. My UPS is connected via CyberPower CP1500EPFCLCD.
Recently, my PC has been crashing unexpectedly. I removed the old mechanical HDD and installed a new Gigabyte Aorus Master 3080 Ti graphics card. The crashes seem to happen only during browsing or when opening/closing windows in Event Viewer. Last night it crashed while idling and downloading games from Steam, showing a "fatal hardware error" in the Event Viewer.
I checked with 3DMark and Heaven Benchmark, both ran smoothly without issues. So far, I’m not sure if the GPU is the cause. It’s possible the negative PBO2 setting on my CPU is the culprit, but it worked before too. I set it to 18 now and haven’t seen any problems.
If you need the DMP file, just let me know how to send it. Also, my BIOS is up to date (version 4.60), and I reinstalled the GPU drivers after a Windows reinstall. Most drivers worked, except one chipy driver that wasn’t detected in Device Manager—fixed by downloading it from Asrock’s site for my board.
These logger issues often stem from inconsistent RAM. Re-seat the modules and verify they're operating with the right XMP settings. Confirm DRAM and SOC voltages fall between 1.35v–1.4v and 1.05–1.15v respectively. Consider running a RAM stress test like memtest86. If the problem persists, it likely means your CPU was pushed too hard. Since you've already reduced the value, wait a week to see if errors continue.
yeah.. from another thread another person advised to use occt and stress test each core for 15m till theres no errors. I pretty much did that and had like 3 cores giving erros within seconds of the test, so maybe the crashes were due to the unstable pbo2 negative curve, which i've fixed. So will report back if this actually fixes it... I've not had any crashes since.
