Whats the deal about GTA IV PC issues?
Everyone is complaining about GTA IV's problems with PC. I've played it on the console but never on my computer. I downloaded it and at 4K resolution, using ultra settings on a 1440p monitor, I get smooth 60fps performance. I own two 980s, yet some people still report issues even when using SLI.
The experience shows the game doesn't really work well with SLI. The second card significantly reduces performance. I haven't played it after upgrading from my 580s, and even then it wasn't sufficient. Given that the GPU was a high-end model and newer than this title, a 980ms load time for smooth operation in 2008 is concerning. This game feels like Rockstar's way of porting to PC, which explains why I'm holding off on GTA V until more positive reviews appear.
It's a game released in 2008—performs smoothly on a 980 MHz processor. Using a 7950 and 8320 at 4.4GHz usually keeps it near 40 frames per second with iCEnhancer, though it appears to be CPU-intensive.
I'm not too picky about games like Crysis with wild specs. But GTA IV didn't push visuals too far — it looks pretty underwhelming. The support for multiple monitors was weak, it doesn't make the most of the CPU, and it wasn't especially powerful compared to what we had back then. It's not that it was ahead of its time; it just didn't translate well on my setup. For a 2008 release, dual GTX 580s and a 3960X should have made this game fail. Let's be clear, my machine ran Crysis smoothly at the same quality with ease. Yet GTA IV had issues there.
Fixing it properly is really tough, it seems like you're loading and setting up a stolen game. double post
It seems Rockstar likely postponed GTA V because of the issues with GTA IV. They probably aimed to avoid repeating those problems with their main game, which should have been Midnight Club instead.
