I considered it a great concept to compile a list of what’s in my dock or taskbar section. Submissions from Linux are also welcome. Please mention any odd applications and note their purposes. From left to right: Finder Launchpad Chrome, Chrome - my top web browser, Spotify, Discord, Safari, for starting projects on iPhone, Safari App Store, TweetDeck, Twitter, Brackets – my favorite HTML editor, Word – mainly for viewing docs, Firefox Nighty – secondary browser, WhatsApp, BalenaEtcher – used to write ISO files to USB drives, Atom – a code editor I’m interested in, DarkTable – a photo editing tool I want to explore, VLC Origin Calculator Pages – my preferred word processor, Numbers, Keynote, iMovie, Twitch, iTunes – for iPhone management (not for music), Maps, Calendar, Preview System, System Preferences, Transmission – for downloading legal Linux ISO files, Linux ISO’s, Linux ISO’s, Linux ISO’s, Linux ISO’s, Linux ISO’s, Linux ISO’s, Linux ISO’s, Linux ISO’s, VirtualBox, Steam, QuickTime Player, Battle.net, OBS, BlackMagic Disk Speed Test, Network Utility, Console, Activity Monitor – Mac version of Task Manager, Terminal, Trash

I’d lose it with all the options popping up on the taskbar.

It's simple to handle since the dock expands to match your mouse position on a Mac. And if I can't locate something, I just switch to highlighting and search for it.

I keep my taskbar off by default, and I prefer a tidy desktop environment.

I keep just the recycle bin icon on the desktop. The other shortcuts are either in the taskbar or Rocketdock. It provides a tidy appearance.

This subject focuses on the taskbar, not the entire desktop...

I also talked about the taskbar in my comment. Edit: Actually, the main goal of arranging shortcuts there is to simplify the desktop view. So my point isn’t entirely off topic.

On my taskbar appears just the time wlan and a few other items that won’t be turned off. My desktop looks almost empty, used mainly for testing files. The recycle bin is also there, of course.

I usually keep my dock simple, only storing items I use often. The tools I rely on include a browser, media player, terminal emulator, code editor, veracrypt, activity monitor, and Discord. My laptop feels underpowered; I want to check if anything unusual is running fast.
