I came across an article discussing how people felt about old dice games. Karl-Magnus Troedsson from Dice shared his thoughts in a conversation: he prefers the older "bad company" titles more than the newer ones. He asked for opinions and wondered what qualities made those games enjoyable. He also considered ideas for improving them.

It was great because it actually functioned well.

Bad company 1 offered a straightforward design with fast pacing that blended gameplay elements from BC1 and BC2. Expect solid maps, mid-to-high TTT, rush-style mechanics from BC1, and no infantry or vehicle bonuses. Avoid 3D spotting unless the enemy is in sight. Vehicles and infantry lack health/armor regen. Only weapon changes affect visibility; other aspects are purely cosmetic. Available classes include specops, antitank, support, assault, and recon.

Specs: C4 systems, assault rifles/carbines/smgs, silencer access, tracer darts.

Antitank options: shotguns, rockets, mines.

Support: carbine, medic bag, repair tool.

Assault/assault rifles: LMDGs, ammo, gl.

Recon: sniper rifles/dmrs, binoculars, claymore, motion sensor (BC2 style).

The narrative stood out for me, along with the pleasant surroundings and thoughtful level design, plus engaging gunplay.

Vietnam dlc had its perks, but the main issues were with the PC version. The BC2 release for PC didn’t go right, and Hardline isn’t DICE’s brand, so it shouldn’t have battlefield-style branding. The maps were okay but too small for the PC build and player count. The graphics were mediocre, with many imbalanced or frustrating elements. It might have been a mistake to introduce static bases for teams early on—it encourages more base-raiding scenarios, which isn’t ideal.

The characters in the campaign were quite absurd. I've often played the tough, gritty military games that feel different from a typical shooter. Bad Company offered a lighter vibe with some intense moments, making it more enjoyable overall.
