to avoid creating a new thread, the G skill RAM is unavailable or quite costly (currently all RAM is) at most locations. anyone have alternative recommendations for quality RAM?

You can review your QVL list for your motherboard. The only thing to avoid is Corsair LPX, as it doesn't seem to work well with Ryzen systems.
