Hey everyone! I'm using an i5 4690k that's been overclocked to 4.6ghz with a good AIO cooler, 16GB RAM, and a GTX 1070. I'm thinking about whether it's worth getting a second-hand i7 4790K instead. On eBay in the UK, those parts usually cost between £150 and £190. Alternatively, I could wait for new B550 boards with better RAM and motherboards. I mainly play games at triple A resolution on my 1080p TV and haven’t planned a jump to 4K yet. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Are you sure the 4790k will cover the transition to DDR5 soon? Since you’ll be purchasing new memory, buying now avoids higher costs later if you wait. The lower refresh rate on TVs means your PC doesn’t need top frame rates, making a 4-core setup more practical.

I haven’t seen much trouble with my rig in these new titles, but most recommend a 6-core CPU. I figured switching to a 4-core with hyper-threading would keep up until DDR5 arrives, though I’m not sure it’s the best choice right now.

If you're content with your present situation, it makes sense to remain there for the moment. A used 4790k will likely drop in value over time, which is a benefit of holding on.
