What upgrades are needed for the next 3-5 years to play BF6, GTA 6, and similar games?
It's time to enhance my 2020 setup that helped me navigate through several lockdowns. I'm not as up-to-date with the latest technology; once I was ahead, now I need some help. My old 1080 Ti must be one of the best GPUs ever made, and it seems they no longer produce such models.
I plan to invest around £2-3k over the next couple of years (or more) to stay current with upcoming updates. My main focus is gaming and editing high-resolution photos in Lightroom, etc. I don’t have strong ties to any major brands—previously I used Nvidia and AMD, but now I can't keep up.
My motherboard is outdated; I probably won’t be able to upgrade the processor further due to discontinued chipsets and pins. My goal is to get the best value for my money if I need to replace the GPU, CPU, motherboard, possibly the monitor, and maybe upgrade to a higher refresh rate display and DDR5 memory.
I’d prefer to keep my tower intact, maintain the cooling system, PSU, and ideally my memory, though that might not be feasible.
Let’s hear from the tech enthusiasts! 😀
Thank you.
I’d like to keep my tower, the cooling setup, the PSU, and if I can remember, though it might not be feasible. Box: Cooler Master MC500 Mid Tower This unit can be recycled. Cooling: Corsair Liquid Cooling system with fan assistance (5 fans) The Corsair brand is associated with an AIO; could you tell me the model number? How recent is this AIO? It’s likely the mounting system prevents recycling it. Power supply: Corsair RM850X What is the age of your PSU? How long has it been supplying power during its use? Personally, it seems like you’re upgrading to a new platform—DDR5 and current generation. I made it because many people are asking for upgrade guidance here and on CPU forums, and I think... forums. can offer helpful input.
Hi ok - thanks - so are you suggesting that I have to rewrite everything again with those headings? I mean, it's clear what you're asking, but I'm not sure if that's really needed. The build was completed in 2020, and the GPU has been keeping my PC running for gaming for a long time without any issues. It's just a large machine when I first bought it. I don't know the exact model of the Corsair cooling system since they all look similar, but maybe how it fits onto the motherboard is the problem? I'll post again if you think I should.
You also don't need to upgrade everything immediately. You might begin with a GPU upgrade right away, then replace the rest of your system in another year or so.
Current best practices recommend the following setup:
Operating System: Windows 11
Processor: AMD X3D
Graphics: nVidia 5080 or higher
RAM: 32+MB with 7200+
Power Supply: 1000+
Cooling: AIO
Storage: M.2 2TB or larger each
