Is this the only issue you're experiencing, or is it common? I just bought GTA V last night and it came compressed onto 7 DVDs. After decompressing, the game loaded in about 10 minutes. Installation took over 9 hours, and it's still at 80.4% with no progress. Why would someone waste time installing such a large file on a system like yours? My rig is an i7 4790k with stock RAM, an 8GB RAM module, and an Intel SSD. I'm running Windows 7 (very old) with SP1 updates.
It's a 67 GB drive, which remains a substantial storage capacity.
I've also played 40 GB stepup games like COD AW even before, which took me around 30 minutes to install. The system is an ASUS GTX 980, but it doesn't require GPU usage during setup—it jumps in when I start the game and again while playing.
the internet isn't that bad, it's only 32mbps, which means I'm seeing a minimum of 3.2mb per second even in the worst case.
I purchased via Steam since I lacked a hard drive (Purchased on 2/7/15). Eligible for pre-load, I did that upon launch. It took roughly an hour and a half to download, and around 15 minutes to unpack/decrypt once the game started.
It looks like you're asking about a purchase decision. Why did you choose the physical version over something else?
Consider using the CD key on Steam for installation instead. If it takes too long, it might mean the process is paused—unless work is still underway.
