What steps should I take to ensure my headset is detected?
I own an HP ProDesk G5 Mini Desktop with a headphone jack and a separate headset jack. Picture: When I connect cheap standard earphones to the headset jack, both the microphone and earphones are detected and function properly. The jack appears to be working. Yet, I wish to use my Sennheiser PC 3 Chat headset. This device uses a green plug for headphones and a pink plug for the microphone. Picture: Plugging the green plug into either jack works, allowing the headphones to connect. However, inserting the pink plug into the right headset jack fails to recognize the microphone. In the "Recording" section of the "Sound" window, the microphone displays "Synaptics HD Audio – not plugged in" with a downward arrow. It also cannot be selected in video conferencing apps like Zoom, and the pink plug doesn’t work in the left jack either. How can I make my headset microphone appear as recognized in this setup? I assume the jack is functional and my microphone isn’t faulty.
I think this should be connected to the port on the right.

This seems like a suitable suggestion, thank you! But am I certain this is the kind of splitter you require? What you recommended:
(2x headset in, 1x headset out)
I believe I should have:
(headphones in, microphone in, headset out)
Do you agree?
