What steps can be taken to resolve issues with Black Ops 3 crashes?
I've been experiencing problems with Black Ops 3 since I bought it a couple of weeks ago (it was new on PS4 before). Right now, every time I want to play it, I have to restart my whole PC. It doesn’t crash consistently within about 10 minutes after launching the game. This hasn’t happened with any other game or program either.
I’ve tried several things:
- Running both the game and Steam as Administrator
- Reducing graphics settings
- Making an exception for the game in antivirus
- Disabling overclocks
- Turning off overlays for apps like Discord
- Stopping background programs such as NZXT cam
- Limiting FPS to match my monitor’s refresh rate
- Other things I might have overlooked
My system specs are:
- Core i7 9700F
- RTX 2060
- ASRock B365M Pro4-F
- Kingston HyperX 16GB RAM at 2667mhz (khx3200c16d4/8gx) in slots 2 and 4
- Cooler Master MWE 550W (owned since October 2020)
- 1TB SSD (Samsung 970 QVO)
- 4TB HDD (ST4000DM004-2CV104 - name seems odd)
- Windows 10, version 10.0.19043
- BIOS version unknown
- Built-in Windows Defender antivirus
I still don’t know what else might be causing the issue.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! Please note the make and model of your PSU in your specifications. It would be helpful to also list its age. Do you have the BIOS version for your motherboard? Regarding your RAM, do you have a link to your RAM kit? Which RAM slots are being used on the motherboard? What storage options are included in your build? Are you using any anti-virus software on your platform? Speaking of platforms, what operating system are you running? If you're using Windows 10, could you specify the version rather than the edition?
Out of curiosity, are you talking about RAM overclocking when you said this?
Turning off any overclocks
Because the board doesn’t support overclocking, even though your processor runs at 2666MHz, which exceeds the JEDEC standard of 2133MHz for DDR4 (an overclock).
I revised the original content with the power supply I'm using now. I'll also update the post with the additional suggestions you mentioned. When discussing overclocks, I was talking about GPU overclocks and other adjustments like boosting voltage and changing "Power maximum" settings in GeForce Experience's performance tab, which only shows up when experimental features are enabled.
