What RAM to purchase considering overclocking?
Hi Guys,
I’m planning to build a PC tomorrow and understand it’s a bit late to adjust things. For my Ryzen setup I chose to upgrade to a 2400g with 8GB RAM instead of the 2200g with 16GB. When trying to reserve components, the store said I couldn’t get the 8GB RAM I wanted because it was out of stock (Vengeance LPX 8GB 2666). Now I’m left with two options: G.Skill Ripjaws 5 and Corsair Vengeance LPX, both 2x4GB at 2400MHz. Since Ryzen performance is highly dependent on RAM speed, I’ve noticed frame rate differences of 5 to 12 between 2133 and 2666. Should I opt for the higher-speed 16GB model or stick with the 3200MHz kit from the 2200g?
I’d really appreciate a quick answer.
Both configurations should reach 2666mhz with enough work. I used to really enjoy corsair ram for its exclusivity, but my recent projects have been g.skill and I’d love to add another to the collection. Actually, I checked a higher clocked binning of the same Ripjaws V while thinking about a new build, but I haven’t decided yet.
I would store more data since you really aim for 3200mhz RAM with the quick 2400g, but you’d miss out a lot of its advantage in terms of FPS when using the IGPU downgrade on the 2200g even though the RAM is faster.
I'd prefer to save more since you really want a 3200mhz ram with the fast 2400g. You'd lose a lot of its advantage in FPS with the IGUP downgrade on the 2200g, even though you have faster RAM. The thing is, I'm just a student and was hoping to build it for the holidays. If I save it, I'll end up with a PC that's not ideal by the end. Do you know how well the Ripjaws 5 2400mhz or Corsair Vengeance LPX will perform? Could I get it up to around 2666mhz? So far, I'm only considering Counter Strike, Doom, and Rainbow 6 to understand the performance needs.
