What prevents my computer from remaining overclocked?
I've experienced enough of this.
A few years back I built my first PC using this site for build advice. I invested around $1,100, and I really like it. I haven’t played games on it much, but recently I’ve been playing a lot.
The problem has been consistent since I got the machine. Whenever I try to play games, I have to restart it for smooth performance. It handles high settings well, but the FPS keeps stuttering and fluctuating. The overclock I set doesn’t last. I tried 3200 MHz, but it randomly reverts to 2133 MHz.
This time I was playing Apex Legends and it worked fine, then I switched to SpelBrak. The low FPS stutters started again.
Here’s my build:

When configuring BIOS, make sure everything is correctly applied. If the system fails to start after changes, it will be reset. For instance, try XMP, then reboot and press F1/F2/whatever to enter BIOS and verify the settings.
Windows also requires reboots frequently. Sometimes I can play games or launch Division 2 without issues, but the next day it won’t start at all unless I restart. If you’re unsure, always reboot.
^ The issue revolves around whether the BIOS performs a RAM self-test during each boot when enabled by default. If it identifies an unstable RAM clock, it may reset the entire system to the default settings. When configured with Ryzen Master, the clocks aren't automatically managed after a reboot.

So I’d have to tweak the settings a bit until it saves properly and remains stable, right? My PC does this inconsistently almost every day. I didn’t realize it was such an issue since I rarely played games on it before.
