What precisely triggers your computer to power off upon connecting the new keyboard?
Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing fine today. I bought a new Asena Wired Gaming Keyboard from my local supermarket and, as the name suggests, it stopped working suddenly after plugging it in. My computer would turn off without warning, even though it was working normally for a short time. I've tried it with other keyboards before and haven't had any problems, so it seems like this keyboard might be causing an issue. I don’t have anything else to test it on. I’ve looked into the event log, but it didn’t give much useful detail—just that the computer shut down. Any advice on figuring out why or how to fix this would be really helpful. Please let me know if you can share more details.

Is the USB connection correct?
Verify that the USB plug isn’t damaged or misaligned. It might just be slightly off, causing a temporary issue due to vibration or heat, especially when connected through the I/O panel.
Also review the Reliability History for any error codes or warnings. It functions similarly to Event Viewer but is much more user-friendly. The timeline view can also provide useful insights.
Does the original keyboard produce any issues?
If only the new Asena keyboard triggers shutdowns, the original keyboard is probably faulty.
Test various USB ports to identify faulty connections. How quickly? Seconds, minutes, nearly immediately?
If it failed right away, I’d think there’s a short in the USB connector or the wiring.
Because it occurs later, I believe a keyboard software might be loading and causing the issue.
Try opening Windows in Safe Mode using F8. That loads Windows with only essential drivers.
I’d consider replacing the keyboard if that happens.
Thanks for your responses, guys. I really value getting back to you quickly.
USB is confirmed. I've tested all USB ports on my PC and still got the same outcome. Maybe I should check if my USB hub is still functional somewhere.
Reliability history only shows the unexpected shutdown and that Windows wasn't properly closed.
I've tried two other old keyboards without any problems.
As mentioned before, it seems okay to leave it plugged in but not touching it; however, it shuts down as soon as I start typing.
It appears the shutdown happens only after I actually try to type. Interestingly, some keys work just before the shutdown.
What should I do after loading Windows in safe mode?
Unfortunately, I don't have a receipt or proof of purchase, but it's not a big deal since it was a cheap, heavily discounted item—possibly indicating a problem.
Also, I don't have much money right now, so I'd really appreciate fixing this if possible.
Additional: I've restarted in safe mode and the issue still exists.
Test linking the keyboard to other devices, such as your friend's laptop, to determine if the problem continues.
Safe mode operates using just the necessary drivers.
If the keyboard initiated a driver update, that might be the reason.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't consider that.
How valuable is your time in trying to fix this problem?
I believe I'd rather replace the keyboard than continue searching.
Oh, well. I do have a fair bit of time at the moment, and otherwise I'm stuck with my older keyboard, but that's okay. If there's some way to fix it I'd like to chase it up, even if just out of curiousity.
Otherwise yeah, seems like the consensus is that the keyboard is just borked and I'll go get another one whenever I can get the money together.
I have successfully swapped the keyboard in question for a different one, though I'm still encountering the same problem, just less frequently. Interesting.
