What power supply option should you choose?
Hi everyone,
I decided to go with the Corsair power supply for my current build. Here’s the link I’m considering: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KXK2KX.
I was thinking of picking the CorsairRM850 in white since there isn’t a RM850x available yet, but I noticed a better deal on a more powerful model.
For the Black Friday sale, the Corsair RM1000x SHIFT is on sale for £134.99.
Do you think there are any advantages or disadvantages to getting the 1000x with the extra wattage? It would cost an additional £4.99, which I’m okay with. I don’t really need much extra capacity, but for about £5 more it could be a good investment for future upgrades. Would a 1000W supply work without problems and maintain similar performance?
Also, I plan to upgrade my GPU to something like the 4070-S next year.

Using a 1000w unit is perfectly acceptable and won't lead to any issues. The system will function as required, consuming only what it needs. The main concern might be minor efficiency losses when drawing less power or during idle periods. In most cases, this could result in a small annual waste of a few dollars at most. If you consider upgrading to a 4070 Super with a suggested 750w unit, everything should work smoothly. The 850w model is sufficient even after an upgrade, and having extra capacity will likely prevent problems from sudden spikes thanks to the available headroom.
