Can someone review my power levels? Optimum is telling me my modem is going bad?? I never had an issue until ATT started digging up the neighborhood for fiber lines. I pay for the 1G plan and am now getting maybe 90 down and still 50 up. Used to get 900 down. Your upstream power is not real good especially on the channel that gets 49.5. I forget the exact recommended values but when you get close to 50 you start having issues. Key here is you are getting a lot of uncorrected code words....ie packet loss. Now if this has been running for a month then it is not bad but I suspect this only a couple days. Sync errors are bad they many times cause the modem to retrain. What this generically means is the ISP is having issues hearing your modem even though your modem can hear the ISP fine....you have good numbers on the downstream. This generally is a cable issue....most times outside your house. You can check all the cable you have access to. You are looking maybe for dirt or water in a connection. Maybe move the modem to connect to directly to the cable coming from the outside of the house without splitters or other stuff connected. After that only the ISP can check stuff. Can be as simple as a small bit of water got into one of the connectors in one of the boxes on the street.

Thanks for giving me some tips. It feels like the ATT fiber folks did something to my yard while digging. I'm worried they might have cut into my internet cable right there. So, does it look okay on my modem? (other than what you said before). Maybe I should just call a tech to come over and check things out for sure.

If it was just a boring ATT fiber run where there are lots of little flags, that means the company didn't hit power lines or water, gas, or phone lines. It was pretty cool when they did this right near me back then. Now, from the new boxes on the street to my house, they just use a shovel and cut a slot straight through the ground. They still have everything there so they don't accidentally hit even sprinkler systems or in theory, phone and cable lines. If they broke the coax cable under the ground going to the box, it would be a big headache because I'd have to run a new one. That tech person from ATT might send someone else to fix that and take the chance of cutting off my fiber service while waiting. Hopefully things are simple. Now that everything is fixed, you should probably check your AT&T rates later on. For me, they were almost $40 a month less for faster services even after the first year. The first year had big discounts too, and I could get like $150 just by signing up online instead of calling their number. But that 5Gbit plan is kind of expensive. For me, Comcast doesn't care much about this; they were already more than AT&T and then they increased the rates, but when I called them, they did it for free for one year even though there was a $40 extra before that increase.

Thanks to your assistance. I just got Optimums 1gig plan at a great deal ($59) because the new fiber from ATT is $80 for the same speed. I've also been with them many years. You'd think they would help a brother out!
