You're evaluating your current setup and considering CPU upgrades for the next-gen era. The specs show a solid 9600k with strong performance, but future consoles may demand higher clock speeds. Options include buying a used 8700k, moving to 10600k or 10700k with a new motherboard, or getting a used 9900k. The GTX 1070 is transitioning to the GTX 1070 Xeon, so you might want to keep it for now. A 9600k + RTX 3070 combo seems feasible, but if you're planning for next-gen hardware, upgrading to a higher-end CPU could be wise.
8700k-9900k would be great. Or if you're not buying an RTX 3070, consider a Ryzen 4700/4700X instead, but the 6C/6T isn't looking good post-release. A 9900k makes more sense than 8700k.
I understand you didn’t request this, but I’d recommend boosting the RAM to a minimum of 3200mhz if you plan to proceed with these upgrades. The newer CPUs will offer better performance and efficiency compared to older Intel models.
